Within the scope of Hieronymus Bosch 500 year, you are invited to walk on the roof of the famous St. John’s Cathedral. An incredible and rare opportunity to admire the 96 stone carved sculptures on the cathedral’s high altitude flying buttresses – all of which are barely visible from the ground.

The statuettes derive from the same period as the famous painter Hieronymus Bosch and show an interesting resemblance with his work. The event was initiated to generate income for the restoration of the cathedral. The colour palette (gold+blue), is a metaphor for ‘the divine’, while the diagonal line emphasises the flying buttresses. These elements highlight the foundation on which the identity and campaign are build. Commissioned by ‘Stichting Nationaal Monument Sint-Jan’, we worked in close collaboration on the concept of the identity and campaign for the event.

These include amongst other things, a poster series, a catalogue and a 25 meter tall wrap for the scaffolding that is used to climb to the roof of the cathedral. The project exceeded all expectations regarding both visitors, over 125.000 people and revenue, more than € 800.000,- in 7 months. An enormous contribution to the restoration of this monument. Resulting not only in world wide press coverage of the event and the opening ceremony. It was also honoured by an extended visit of the King of The Netherlands.
